Welcome
Welcome to ClimateActionMap.org. On this site you will be able to learn about initiatives that cities and municipalities around the world are implementing to reduce their climate impact. Action at the local level is an absolute imperative if we want to reduce our human impact on our climate and adopt to those changes that cannot be mitigated. We hope that this website will help educate people, companies and governments of the many innovative solutions that are being implemented at the local level to reduce CO2 emissions and adapt to the imapacts of climate change. More information about this project, and how to get your own community involved can be found in
our brochure
. You can also view a slideshow of the
projects featured on this page by clicking this link (powered by CoolIris).
Background
Addressing climate change requires a broad combination of top down policies and bottom up initiatives. While national governments create the regulatory framework and targets, implementation in many cases will be the responsibility of local governments and communities. Addressing global climate change at the local level can be a daunting task for a community. Where do we start? What kind of solutions are out there? How can we learn from others? ClimateActionMap.org was created to communicate the thousands of local climate initiatives to a global audience. Sharing our knowledge and expertise globally is fundamental if we want to address climate change in a serious and timely manner.
Mission
The mission of the Local Climate Action Map is to educate, inform and inspire governments, communities and businesses about the innovative climate action activities taking place at the local level all over the world, using cutting edge web-based geo-spatial visualization tools.
